  13. Cyno's BlankIt! is a very simple screen saver; it blanks the screen.
  14. This simple screen saver is for OS/2 servers, power-users, and
  15. systems where resources (not to mention stability) are too precious
  16. to waste on fancy, yet useless, screen savers.

  18. Why do you need a screen saver?
  19. -------------------------------

  21. Screen savers prevent phosphor damage that occurs when computer
  22. monitors are displaying the same image, without changing the
  23. display. Damaged black and white monitors tend to show the
  24. inactive image burned into the screen. Distortion of color
  25. values may occur after periods of inactivity in color monitors.

  27. Why do you need a screen saver if you have a EnergyStar monitor?
  28. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  29.  
  30. EnergyStar monitors are excellent at reducing energy consumption.
  31. They turn off by themselves after a specific amount of time, doing
  32. exactly what a screen saver suppose to do. However, switching the
  33. monitors on and off constantly tends to wear out the monitors
  34. prematurely. Of course, monitors built to the EnergyStar specification
  35. generally have a longer life-span. But you can keep your monitors
  36. working even longer if you set the switch off time higher, and use a
  37. screen saver for short breaks.

  39. New Features
  40. ============

  42. Cyno's BlankIt! now allows you to set the saver inactive time, and
  43. the screen saver activation corner. The 'Exit' menu selection is
  44. now gone from the menu, since you can simply double click on the
  45. system menu to close Cyno's BlankIt!
  46.  
  47. A new 'About . . .' dialog box has been created for Cyno's BlankIt!
  48. The dialog box contains no 'OK' button. However, you may remove the
  49. box by double clicking on the system menu of the dialog box.

  51. Configuration
  52. =============
  53.  
  54. 'Activation Corner' allows you to choose a corner where the saver
  55. can be enabled manually. The default is lower left hand corner.
  56.  
  57. If 'Minimize On Load' is checked, Cyno's BlankIt will load as an
  58. icon the next time it loads. The default is off.
  59.  
  60. The 'Time to Wait' slider will allow you to set the period of
  61. inactivity before blanking the screen. If this value is set to
  62. zero, screen blanking can only occur manually. The default is
  63. 5 minutes.

  65. Usage
  66. =====

  68. Cyno's BlankIt! automatically blanks the screen after a period
  69. of inactivity. To enable screen saver manually, move mouse
  70. cursor to a corner you have chosen as the 'Activation Corner'.

  72. Notes about the program
  73. =======================

  75. This version is released as Freeware. You may use it and modify it in
  76. any way, free of charge. But you can not release the program to the
  77. public in the modified form without the consent from the author.
